COMMANDMENTS FIVE TO TEN

"Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."--Duet.5: 16 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."-Ephesians 6:1 "You children must always obey your fathers and mothers, for that pleases the Lord. Fathers, don’t scold your children so much that they become discouraged and quit trying."
(The Living Bible)--Colossians 3:20-21
The family is God ordained.
In a normal Christian home, the father is under the authority of Jesus Christ. He guides the family according to what God's Word says. The wife is under the authority of the husband. They are equal but with different roles.
In a single parent home, the parent is under the authority of Jesus Christ and the children) under the authority of the parent.
Parents together are to be in authority over children, guiding them in life in the Word of God. Training is a day to day event of learning and of course , patience.
Parents should love and respect children. Harsh attitudes frustrate and alienate.
Likewise children are commanded to love, honor and respect their parents.
When children dishonor parents this is in direct disobedience to authority that is set by God.Parents sacrifice many things in their own lives to see that their children receive proper food, shelter, clothing and education.
Children can and should display gratitude in actions. There are many ways to say "thank you" to parents. Some ways to show gratitude might be washing dishes, mowing the lawn or running an errand.
And let's not forget our elderly parents.
This commandment applies to adult children as well.
God's way teaches us to give back to our parents when they are older. Elderly parents need our love and devotion. There are many things we can do to show that love for them, but we must also remember it important to respect their independence and personal dignity. Help with tasks around the home, a shopping trip, or help to the doctor's office are some ways we can assist our elderly parents.
If we honor God's commandment toward parents and children, we shall be surely blessed.
"And murder is forbidden. - for to kill a man is to kill one made like God." |
"And Jesus replied, "Don’t kill, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, don’t lie, honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself!" (The Living Bible)-Matthew 19:18-19
"Anyone who hates his Christian brother is really a murderer at heart; and you know that no one wanting to murder has eternal life within. We know what real love is from Christ’s example in dying for us. And so we also ought to lay down our lives for our Christian brothers." (The Living Bible)--1 John 3:15-16
God's Word says that premeditated murder is forbidden.
Man is created in the image of God. He is the only One Who has authority over life and death.
Hate is likened to murder of the heart.
God's Word tells us to love all people and only the Holy Spirit can give a person that kind of love in their heart. This is indeed the God kind of love and supernatural.
"Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." --Matthew 5:27-28
God wants us to be loyal, committed and pure to Him and to our mate.
Adultery is an act of unfaithfulness to the marriage partner. It can and does include looking upon someone with impure thoughts. In this very act, the person moves from looking at a person to entertaining lustful imaginations and thoughts.
These thoughts eventually lead to impure actions against the marriage partner.
Satan attacks the thought life of people. The only way to combat these attacks is through prayer and meditation on God's Word. The Holy Spirit , Our Helper, can give guidance and strength to overcome. As we do these things, and turn our thought life over to God by choice, we can live in victory over impure thoughts and feelings.
"If you love your neighbor as much as you love yourself you will not want to harm or cheat him, or kill him or steal from him." The Living Bible (Romans 13:9)

"If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. " -1 John 4:20-21
Jesus tells us our neighbor is our brother. That includes everyone we come into contact with.
The Word of God tells us to love others. Love includes respect. In regard to this commandment, we are not to lie about others, spread rumors or gossip of any fashion.
Our words are powerful and the law of return applies to the words we speak. Sowing and reaping. Whatever we speak out of our mouths will eventually come back to us in one fashion or another.
Better to bless others and be blessed than to curse others and be cursed.

"Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbour’s wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour’s house, his field, or his manservant, or his maidservant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbour’s."--Deut.5: 21
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets"--Matthew 22:37-40
The Bible tells us to bless other. We should be happy for others when they succeed. We need not be jealous or covet the things which others have. All things belong to God, lent to us while we are here on this earth. God knows our needs and our dependence is on Him. He alone is the One who supplies all our needs.
